I’ve had a pretty creative week, which is something that hasn’t happened in a while. Things have been so busy otherwise over the last several months that my visual creative practice had fallen by wayside. It feels good to have two finished projects to share with all of you.
This week I decided to experiment with a new painting technique. For a first run, I’m pretty happy with the result. I’ll be playing with this method more. It’s fun and messy. What else can a girl ask for? Other other than the painting, I finished my first scarf for the homeless for this year. Photos of both projects are below.
I’ve still been hard at work on writing projects. Lately though, I’ve been taking out time to do some “just because” things too. Some have turned out nicely, others not so much. No matter what, I had a good time playing around. Local veggies are really starting to come in and I’ve been stocking the freezer with some of the early crops. Plus, I’ve been in the mood to knit washcloths lately for some odd reason but hey why fight it. I even made some time for a few very quick art projects and to get outside-just to make my heart happy. Below are a few pics of some of the stuff I’ve done this week.
Below are a few photos of two of my latest paintings. The first, called “Molten Sky” was done a few weekends ago when I went to take a watercolor class with a woman who I’ll definitely be taking more classes with. The second, called “Falling Abstraction” is one I did about a week or so ago. Both pieces are done using watercolor.
The final photo in today’s post will be of a pair of toddler shoes/slippers which I knitted a little while back.
Well, my last few posts have found me talking about the digging and searching I’ve been doing. All of that is well and good…the digging and searching are necessary to find the treasures. For this post, I wanted to share some of my work from the last few months. I’ve even decided to share some of the Summer Solstice stuff.
Wow, I realized when I was checking off categories to tag the various types of work I’ve done in the last two months that I’ve accomplished a lot more than I thought! See…told you in the last post that it hasn’t been all drudgery, and now that I’m putting it all together I am realizing myself that I’ve been a bit more balanced than even I thought.
Let’s start with the Solstice stuff…I did a collage and made a hand sewn booklet.
I also finished a crocheted afghan I began many months ago and hadn’t touched in a long while.
I’ve also managed to get through another 2 weeks in Journal 52…Week 7 When I Grow Up and Week 8 Found Poetry.
I did rework the painting which I had posted about before that I had felt that I messed up.
And now, for the works in progress:
I am knitting a cardigan for myself…that pattern is called “Bright and Breezy Kimono” and can be found on allfreeknitting.com.
Work in progress number 2…I found some leaf shaped blades from a ceiling fan and have started working on one of them.
Last but not least is a beginning draft of what might be a character in an upcoming piece of writing…I’m not sure, but I sat down this afternoon to sketch something and she is what I came out with.
This is my first ever item of clothing, so of course I’m excited. I still have one sleeve yet to do and to attach the buttons, but I had to post a few pictures of this tonight because it’s just so cute! When it’s completely finished I will post more photos and publish a link to the pattern on Ravelry.com because the designer definitely deserves credit.
I love this pattern! It’s so dainty.
Could have probably picked a better item to show scale but hey, allergies are kicking my hiney so the box was handy 😉
