I’ve had a pretty creative week, which is something that hasn’t happened in a while. Things have been so busy otherwise over the last several months that my visual creative practice had fallen by wayside. It feels good to have two finished projects to share with all of you.
This week I decided to experiment with a new painting technique. For a first run, I’m pretty happy with the result. I’ll be playing with this method more. It’s fun and messy. What else can a girl ask for? Other other than the painting, I finished my first scarf for the homeless for this year. Photos of both projects are below.
For the first time in weeks, I got a wild hair and started slinging paint. It isn’t quite done yet, but alas it’s time to stop for now. It’s probably a good thing as it needs to dry a bit anyway.
Below are a few shots of the latest painting that I’ve been working on in spare moments here and there. I’m really liking this one.
Closer detail to show texture
Below is the finished painting of what several of you have called “Swing Girl”. I sketched this out in ink and colored pencil last week, and put her on a canvas over the weekend. This new phase of mine…doing silhouettes…sure is turning out to be loads of fun. I’m posting a few views of it, because one of them shows more of the blue than the other.

This background was a happy accident. I was putting gesso over a painting that I wasn’t crazy about and started to see a cool effect taking shape. After I got it how I liked it, I kept it for a while…not sure what to put on it. My sister suggested a girl with a kite. I wasn’t sure if I was up to the challenge, but I’m glad I decided to go for it.
Not sure if I’m done with this one yet, but time grows short for today. It just makes me happy that I got to play with paint after all. Yes, this is another webcam photo rush job. Better quality to come…at some point 🙂
