NaPoWriMo ~ Day 1

Today is the first day of my favorite month long challenge, National Poetry Writing Month. Each April is National Poetry Month, and the awesome people at NaPoWriMo host a lovely space for the poets among us to join up and add our links, as well as visit the sites of other poets if we choose. They also post an optional prompt each day. I typically follow the prompts as it is a great opportunity to learn about new forms of poetry and expand your skills-plus it’s just fun.

The prompt for today is to write a lune, which is an English language take on haiku. There are two different styles of lune. One in which you have three lines with a syllable count of 5,3,5. The second style is a poem which has three lines with a word count of 5,3,5. I’ve decided to do one of each type.

Here’s the first:

Where is the love now?

In the heart

As it always was

Here’s the second:

Angel wings gliding all around

Our constant companions

Filling the world with light
