NaPoWriMo Day 26 ~ Persona Poem

The prompt for NaPoWriMo is to write a persona poem, which is a poem in the voice of someone else. I am going to write using the voice of the Welsh goddess Cerridwen.

cerridwen
They call me the keeper of the cauldron of knowledge and inspiration
The overseer of the underworld, a fearsome place to many
While I am the keeper of inspiration, I am also the overseer of death
Though I reveal myself as an old crone to some, I am not only of the darkness
I am also a beautiful mother, a master of transformation and rebirth
Many do not know that I am considered to be the mother of poetry
My beloved son Taliesin almost failed to be
He was a reminder of my failed plan to redeem my first son
I could not bear to keep him, but my plan to kill him failed
As I gazed upon his beauty, my heart would not allow it
Into the sea he went, to be rescued by a prince
Going on to become the famed bard of the kings of Cymru

My cauldron still brews, each time for a year and a day
The knowledge and inspiration within grows stronger, more potent
My way is not for the faint of heart, it is for those willing to pass the test
Patience is a virtue if you wish to partake of my potions
Know that I am with you as you wait, that my protection is yours
During the silvery glow of the full moon I am the mother, the crone in the dark
At the dark moon after a year and a day, your transformation will be complete
You will be reborn into all of the knowledge of which you’ve partaken
Step out into the world my child, be filled with inspiration
Begin anew as your feet travel this ancient path of power and creation
