NaPoWriMo Day 5 ~ Rewriting Dickinson

The prompt at NaPoWriMo today is to rework a poem by Emily Dickinson. The first part of the prompt is to remove all of the dashes and line breaks from of her poems, and then to add them back in and add words of your own. In order below are the original, the removed dashes, and my reworking.

The Poets Light but Lamps

The Poets light but Lamps —
Themselves — go out —
The Wicks they stimulate
If vital Light

Inhere as do the Suns —
Each Age a Lens
Disseminating their
Circumference —

The Poets light but Lamps Themselves go out
The Wicks they stimulate If vital Light
Inhere as do the Suns Each Age a Lens
Disseminating their Circumference

The Poets light but candles
Flickering wildly before they go out
The Wicks they stimulate, tickling them with the nib
Such vital Light they ignite with a splash of ink

Inhere as do the Suns dwell long after dusk
Each Age a Lens through which history weaves a vision
Disseminating their very heart; joy, tears, and all in between
Circumference of the World around and reaching the very stars
