NaPoWriMo Day 18 ~ Ruba’i/Rubaiyat

Today’s prompt at NaPoWriMo is to write a poem is ruba’i form which is a Persian form of poetry which is composed of four lines in the rhyming pattern AABA. You can also do multiple stanzas in the same pattern, in which case it would be called a rubaiyat.

Waiting

Waiting for the day when yesterdays are in the past
A place where love is real and relationships are made to last
I know in my heart that such things exist
For my own forever fairy tale I’m holding fast

Perfection isn’t what I speak of; my words I ask you not to twist
I’m simply asking to be at the top of my beloveds list
It isn’t too much to ask for my heart is true
Clarity of intention seems to be hidden in the mist

I beg thee not to make me wonder what I mean to you
Been there before and the suspense kept me sleepless and blue
My day will come, this much I know
Till then I’ll bide my time and my own past not rue

Dreaming of the day when love doesn’t come and go
Though sometimes that arrival feels unbearably slow
I refuse to surrender and be overcome by doubt
For I know that if I keep the faith that true love will set my world aglow

    Yes….

Well done again, Tracy. I hope you’re writing a poetry book!

    • Jules, I was just thinking last night about taking all of the poems from this April and last April and doing a chapbook. Now that you’ve said that, maybe that’s my validation that I need to do it. Thank you! So glad you liked it.
