My dear friend Heather Tokas, owner of Butterflies from Heather, has truly honored me. I have to admit that when she first made her request that I was intimidated and doubted my ability to pull this off. Heather is participating in the Mother Earth News Fair again this year. Last year was her first time, and let me tell you…it’s a big deal! She has worked really hard over the years with her lovely butterflies and I was tickled for her when she was invited to take part.
Of course they loved her, and asked her back this year. Well, she asked me if I would consider doing some paintings of butterflies which she could take with her. The reason I was so intimidated was that a few weeks ago I was attempting to paint wings to incorporate into another piece of work that I had done. For the life of me, I could not figure out how to do it. So I thought…oh boy…not just wings…whole butterflies. It was like being on a game show and hearing the wah-wah-wah-wahhhhh sound when you lose. Yes, that’s how well I thought I would do.
Well, to my great surprise my first painting, a skipper, turned out really well. Below is a photo of my maiden voyage into painting butterflies. I’ll be trying to paint other types of butterflies too, so that I can give her some variety…wish me luck. Please click the links above to visit Heather and to check out the Mother Earth News Fair. Really Heather…thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
