There have been times since my move that I have thought about slowing down just a little bit, because of the possibility of a bad flare up of the old Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue beast, but to put it as succinctly as possible…I can’t freaking do it! There’s just too much to do here and I’m having way too much fun doing it. Living in such a vibrant city has done wonders for me in mind, body, spirit, creativity, and whatever else you can find to toss into the mix.
Over the past six weeks I’ve really been kicking things up a notch when it comes to trying to get it together as far as taking better control of my life and health. I never did like playing the victim, but in many ways I had been doing just that before I moved here…due to being in a funk for various reasons and hating where I was living. So, I’ve been walking a lot, doing a little resistance work, eating much healthier (most of the time), getting out more, making friends, meditating, stopped smoking (almost four months ago now), listening to more music (and dancing along of course), and generally spending as much time as possible in the pursuit and enjoyment of the positive things in life. My goal was to do all of this after my move, but then when my sister had her open heart surgery it made me all the more determined to make the most out of every day. Let’s face it people, we just never know how much time we’ve got.
Creatively speaking, sketching had taken a back burner for a little while but I am pleased to say that tonight I began and have made good headway on two new pieces. Yesterday, one of the things that I bought myself for my birthday was more art supplies in the form of a pencil/graphite set, some tools for blending, another small sketch book, and a glue stick so that I can make my first ever full moon dream board later this month. Woohoo!
|No, I didn’t paint the nails to match the ring lol.
I also bought myself a ring…sterling and lapis. The other ring in the photo to the right is a claddagh which my sister got for me last Christmas (and I adore). My sister and brother-in-law bought me some really cool prezzies as well! Plus, she took me out for lunch at a totally fabulous vegetarian restaurant. It was honestly the best birthday that I can ever remember having.
I’m also taking some classes. Been taking a nutrition class over the past four weeks, starting a tai chi class on Monday, and began foreign language lessons online last night. I’ve also been working my way through several books about topics I’ve been wanting to learn more about for a while. In the future I wish to take a few formal classes. The funny thing is that I am not yet sure what I want those classes to be about exactly. I’ll know when I know right?
Also, I’ve joined a few meetup groups. To be fair I’ve only attended one of them so far…well more than once, but only one of the groups…it’s for knitting, crochet, sewing, quilting etc. Just this morning I signed up for a new group that’ll be meeting on Thursday and I’m really looking forward to it. The name of the group is Ponderer’s Cafe and I think that it will suit my intellectual side really well. The other is a book club, but so far there has been a wait list for every meeting. There are a few more that I’m looking into. Really do have to be careful not to overextend myself though so I’ll leave it as is for now. I want to leave time and room for my writing and art…plus a girl’s got to sleep sometime right?
Now, you know more about what’s been going on here and how I’ve been nourishing myself inside and out. It’s been a fantastic few months! I’d love it if you’d tell me some of the ways in which you’ve been caring for yourself. We inspire one another way more than any of us ever realize…so please do share.
