Exciting News and General Updates

First I want to share some news with all of you…news which still has me doing a happy dance even though I received it on Tuesday. I heard from the building manager that MY apartment just became available. He still couldn’t give me an exact move in date because it literally opened up the day before I talked to him and it still has to go through painting, cleaning, etc. As soon as I hung up the phone with him I called my sister and as soon as the words began coming out of my mouth I cried my eyes out from sheer happiness and relief. I’ve had my application in since early December of last year and getting this news on the day that I did was like an answer to a prayer. Just the evening before, I had been talking to my sister on the phone and told her that I wasn’t sure how much more of the place and situation I’ve been in that I could withstand…and then to get this news the very next morning…well, let’s just say that it was a feeling similar to when the clouds open up to let a brilliant beam of sunlight through after days and days of Winter gloom. It seems as though October 1 or somewhere around there will be when I can move in. It’s really happening people!

Otherwise, I’ve been staying pretty busy helping out with more tomatoes and green beans than I want to look at. It’s gotten to the point that I’ve begun groaning internally when I see more tomatoes coming…and I love tomatoes.

When I’m not completely exhausted from that and just the everyday stuff that a person needs to do to keep things going I’ve been knitting. The progress with knitting has been really slow because I haven’t had much time and especially energy to work at it a lot but it’s still fun and helps me to relax. Over a month ago I began working on the Silver Bullet and Blood head scarf from ‘Vampire Knits’ by Genevieve Miller.

There is a subtle difference in the way that it looks on each side. Hopefully it is clear enough to see in the photos. This thing is really cool looking and easy to make…it’s just not the quickest knit. It’s made on size 6 needles which are pretty small for those of you who do not knit and last night I measured for the fun of it…there are 12 rows to an inch. The finished headscarf will be 6 feet and last night, I made it to almost 4. It’s getting there.

There were a few days when I needed a break from the scarf, so I found a few patterns and started knitting some leaves. So far I’ve got several of one type of leaf made and will be moving on the try out maple and oak leaves. My idea for these is to get a pretty, clear glass dish and scatter them for autumn decoration. I’m not entirely sure what I will do with them yet, but they’re really fun to make and kinda cute. Here are some photos of them.

This type of leaf here…which I have no idea what they are because the pattern did not state…are super easy and quick to make. Each leaf takes about 45 minutes or so, but remember that I am not normally the sort of knitter who sits in place and knits for hours. I tend to get up and down a good bit and take short breaks, so some of you may get them done a lot faster.

If these look like something that you would like to try, here’s a link to the site where I found the pattern: http://craftside.typepad.com/craftside/2010/08/knit-leaf-coaster-pattern-from-the-book-the-complete-photo-guide-to-knitting-by-margaret-hubert.html.

Yes, I know that it says that it is a coaster pattern but I am simply knitting it and then skipping the lining part. I still have to press some of them…others I am going to leave with a little curl to them. I’m sure you notices different sizes here. I did not modify the pattern at all. I simply switched yarn weights and went to smaller needles.

Well, in a nutshell this is what has been happening with me. I’ve just been trying to fit in some of the things I love to do in between the mundane and resting when the mundane has worn me out. No, this is not a way for me to whine…honestly. It’s just the way that life is for someone with Fibromyalgia. You do the necessary things, you rest, and then you fit in the fun stuff. Granted, there may be times in which you have to rest longer but it’s something you learn to live around. There was an entire day not long ago that I spent in bed reading because I was too exhausted and in too much pain to do much else. Ya know what though? That was a fantastic day. It had been ages since I’ve read all day! It’s time to wrap things up here for now. I hope that all of you are well.

  1. WHOO HOOO on the apartment!!!!! Finally!!!!!!!!!!!! You must be so incredibly stoked. Have you started packing yet? Great knitting too. That's one craft (w/ crocheting) that I never learned. But since I rarely wear sweaters, hats or scarves, I never took it up as a hobby.

  2. Thanks JoJo! Oh yeah…I am definitely stoked! I have done a little packing and could stand to do more except that if I do, there will be no room for me to live lol. About not knitting or crocheting…you do so many fantastic things that I definitely wouldn't know how to begin doing. People having different talents and skills is one of the things that makes life so interesting. 🙂

  3. Thank you Bro! It's getting closer to becoming reality and I'm looking forward to it more than you can imagine. Thanks on the scarf! It is 'wicked' lol. Going to try to call you today sometime. 🙂
